MUSIC AND SOUND

The U.K. has an incredible music history and scene, but we’ve never seen Black British music on screen quite like this.

By showcasing and highlighting the best of London and UK musical talent, we will create an immersive experience that thrusts the audience deep into the world of these musicians. We’ll cast real musicians as artists, alongside artists who act too. In doing so we’ll get to see real moments in the studio when the magic happens, and the authenticity of what it looks like when someone is starting out and trying to make ends meet; the moments in label meetings and the last trains home from gigs. In allowing us to see those who go on stage, as well as what happens backstage, in their everyday lives, this will further ground the audience and allow them to meet our characters on a HUMAN, EMOTIONAL level.

We will work alongside a London based musician(s) to both helm an original contemporary soundtrack and create an original score. This will allow us to create specific themes for MOSES and NICOLE, deepening moments of emotional resonance. The soundtrack will also further place us in the world our characters exist in, placing the audience in the contemporary UK music scene, and beyond. This work will mean that MOSES’ music can act as an authentic centrepiece in the moments he is performing, working with musicians to pair the music to emotions in specific moments.

The power of cinema also allows us to make full use of available technology, such as spatial audio, which allows us to go beyond stereo, sound not just coming from the left and right but from all sides, building a 3D soundstage. The audience will not just hear sounds and music but feel where in rooms and spaces the sounds come from. While this technology is primarily used in theatrical releases, many home systems can also take advantage of spatial audio nowadays.
